The ending of Black Ops II can go one of two ways, with one option having Alex Mason die. If Mason does die, one of the epilogues will have Woods and Mason's son going to Alex's grave. As of now, there is no canonical ending for Black Ops II regarding Mason, so he could have been killed in combat.
