The football team plays in the Campeonato Paulista, the state of So Paulo's premier state league, as well as in the Brasileiro Srie A, the top tier of the Brazilian football league system. Palmeiras was founded by Italian immigrants in 1914, as "Palestra Itlia" ( pronounced [pal[st~italjP]).
Palmeiras have been crowned Champions, Santos have been relegated for the first time in their 111-year history and Fluminense became kings of the continent with victory in the Copa Libertadores. Endrick and Palmeiras won Brazil's key domestic title this year; the Serie A.
