The New South Wales gambling regulator suspended Star's Sydney licence in October 2024, slapping a recordR$100m fine on the company after an inquiry found the casino had allowed money laundering to take place inside private rooms and identified numerous compliance failures.
Crown was fined an additionalR$30 million by the Victorian gambling watchdog in April for allowing punters to cash bank cheques made out to themselves, exacerbating gambling harm and likely aiding "criminal infiltration by money launderers".
