Jason X was theatrically released in the U.S. on April 26, 2002. It was negatively received by critics, and was a box-office bomb, grossing onlyR$17.1 million on a budget ofR$11 14 million.
One day, when the bullying escalated from playful taunting to assault, Jason was killed by drowning in the lake after being pushed into it when he tried to escape his tormentors. None of the camp counselors helped Jason, as they were busy having casual relations.
